Beef Stew with Dumplings

3 Pounds of Lean meat

3 Cups Potatoes cut in 1/2 inch slices

1/2 Cup Turnip cut in cubes

1/2 Cup Carrots cut in cubes

1/2 Cup Onion cut in thin slices

1/2 cup Flour

Salt & Pepper seasoned to taste

Wipe off meat and cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes, salt and pepper and dredge though flour. Place into frying pan with small amount of oil, and sear. When well browned place meat into Kettle. Add small amount of water into frying pan and heat over stove, stiring and boiling water for a few minutes. Add this water in the frying pan to the kettle with the meat, and cook and simmer until meat is tender. Add the remaining vegetables and seasonings, and cook until they are cooked. To thicken the stew add 1/4 cup flour mixed with enough cold water and stir so there are no lumps and so it will pour easily.
