I am a Hicks living in Lorain, OH. My family is originally from the Dayton, OH area. I am a descendent of

James R. Hicks who was born in 1815 and married Lucinda Johns. I am trying to build my family tree and

would appreciate any information that you might have or any tips that may help steer me in the right

direction. Thanks for your help in advance and having Hicks information on the Web.

I am looking for the birthplace and ancestry of Eliza Hicks, wife of  John Shriner, mother of Eliza Ann Shriner born at Fayette, Seneca Co. NY,  Sept. 23, 1815.

This information comes from page 966, in the Biographical Sketches in a  Seneca Co., Ohio, History book,
"The History of Seneca Co. Ohio", by Warner, Beers & Co. (1069 Pages), pub. 1886. See quote below.

" ... Andrew SANFORD was married, January 14, 1836, to Eliza Ann SHRINER, born at Fayette,
Seneca Co. NY, Sept. 23, 1815, dau. of John and Eliza ( HICKS ) SHRINER,
who moved from NY to Seneca Co. OH in July 1834, the former was a son of John and Johannah ( LOW ) SHRINER". They raised a family of eight children.

Eliza Ann Shriner is my gggrandmother. Some people believe this Eliza Hicks was born in VT October 02, 1794 to John Hicks and Elizabeth Butts.

However, it is well documented that she bore a number of children with another husband in the time frame she would have to have been with John Shriner.

Eliza (Betsy) Hicks, daughter of John & Elizabeth (Butts) Hicks was born Oct. 2, 1794 in Vermont and died 1856-1860 in probably Henry Co. IA, Lowell Tws., she married Ithamar Hibbard, a carpenter & fine mechanic

My gg grandfather was Robert Lyle Hicks married to Annie Eliza Lile. He was born in Ohio in 1850 and died in 1933 in Salmon, Lemhi, Idaho. His parents were Jacob Hicks (b 1814 in Virginia) and Harriet Hall. Jacob's parents were John Isaac Hicks (b 1776 in Virginia) and Sarah Shores. I have hit a road block in my search for much information before Robert Lyle. If anyone could help fill in any blanks, I would be very appreciative. Email at hicksjt@peoplepc.com .
