Information from Dan Hicks
Richard Hix/Hicks was in the War of 1812 and died in 1815 at the Battle of New Orleans (in Camp). Zilphia (Brake) Hicks (daughter of Jacob Brake) received a land pension in 1817 (50 acres by Ill Will Creek Kentucky). I have no birth or marriage dates or locations. Looks like Richard's family was around VA, NC, & Kentucky. Problem is there are similar names but dates that are just too scetchy far apart to make a good match. Mostly from N.C.
Children of Richard & Zilphia Hicks M: around 1800 Edgecomb County N.C.
WILLIAM2 HICKS, b. Abt. 1792, South Carolina.
SALLY HICKS.
William Hicks is my line of genealogy.
Thank you very much for any help you could get me. I would rally appreciate it.

Query:
Greetings, I am seeking information on my family in and around Monroe County, Illinois. Specifically I am researching the following Hicks family.
William Hicks, b. btw. 1792 -1800 in South Carolina, married to
Mary Unknown. This union produced the following children:
Richard Hicks b. 1826 in Kentucky
Cornelius Hicks b. 1827 in Kentucky
James Hicks b. 1830 in Kentucky
William Hicks b. 1832 in Monroe County, Illinois
John Hicks b. 1834 in Monroe County, Illinois
Zilpha Hicks b. 14 Jul 1836 in Monroe County, Illinois
Andrew Jackson Hicks b. 1838 in Monroe County, Illinois
McSwain Hicks, b. 1840 in Monroe County, Illinois
George W. Hicks b. 1843 in Monroe County, Illinois
I believe this family was living in Monroe County in 1840, but I cannot verify it because I cannot find accurate census data for this county for this year. The family moved to Wayne County, Missouri sometime between 1840 and 1850. I have records of them in Missouri for 1850 and 1860. The family then moved back to Illinois prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, as Cornelius, James, and John all were Illinois Volunteers. Cornelius was KIA at Cleveland, Tennessee, and is buried in the National Cemetery at Chattanooga, Tennessee.
This line is my Father's line, and unfortunately, my personal brick wall. I have my maternal line back to Scotland in 1352, but the Hicks line seems to just stop with William near 1800 in South Carolina just as if he were magically to appear there.
Any help would greatly be appreciated as I have been working on this for a long time without any success.
Best regards, Greg Hicks Poplar Bluff, Missouri

Query
Although I am not a Hicks descendant, I am seeking information about Richard Hicks, my ggg grandmother's first husband.
Richard was born in 1774 in what is now Kershaw County, South Carolina (then Camden...?) He married Zilphia Brake around 1800 and they had 6 children. According to researchers, Richard was killed at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. We are trying to find out the names of the couple's six children. Does anyone have any information?
Thank you.

Uvette Hicks Brice - ubbie@hctc.net
My name is Uvette HICKS Brice. My GG Grandfather was Alfred HICKS. He was born in Bradley County Arkansas in 1837. He married Amanda Elizabeth DAVIS in 1858 in Bradley County. They moved to Texas in 1873 from AR. They moved with his mother, Nancy CROFT Hicks and her mother, Anna WAGNOR Davis. Also her brother William Davis and his wife Elizabeth HICKMAN Davis. And nieces Mary and Nancy Lindsey who were married to brothers, Tom and Frank HICKMAN. I am researching for any information on Alfred's father. He is listed only as Mr. Hicks. Nancy CROFT (Craft) Hicks is listed to be from South Carolina. She had several children born in Tennessee all counties are unknown. No where is her husband listed except as Mr. Hicks. Alfred had several sisters and one brother that is known about. The brother was Dudley Hicks and is listed on the 1850 census for Bradley County as being 28 yr.. of age. Alfred at the time is listed as 7. Alfred's sister, Louisa (Louise) Hicks married Ansil Crisp and they remained in AR. when the family moved. They had 2 sons for sure, Daniel Boone Crisp and Veston Crisp. Apparently, Alfred had to leave AR. because he killed his best friend thinking the best friend to be an Indian. I can not seem to get any more information than that. Thank you, Uvette
